Blue Lily

Nymphaea caerulea, was used enthusiastically by the ancient Egyptians, who worshipped it as a visionary plant and often was revered as a sacred symbol for new beginnings.
The Egyptians used the herb to relieve pain, increase memory, increase circulation,
promote sexual desire, and create euphoria and ecstasy. It was the ancient world’s
magic elixir.
Sacred Blue Lotus was traditionally made into a tea using warm water or wine, then drunk.  Some people today soak the plant in cranberry juice to make an herbal tea.
Buddhists will sometimes place the sacred blue lotus flower on a pedestal ascribing to it fragrance, purity, delicateness and beauty.
The sacred blue lotus flower is celebrated world-wide and can be found across the globe.
The lotus wheel is also used in Yoga and Tantra and is a source for meditation.
Nelumbo nucifera is an edible plant. The seeds are roasted to make makhannas, which is a
type of puffed seed. The plants rhizomes are a source of edible starch, and Native Americans used a closer relative as a starch in their diet.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

Writing for Stylecraze, author Shruti Goenka notes that:

Nymphaea caerulea, better known as the blue lotus flower, is actually a gift to the world.

Originally found on the banks of the river Nile, the Nymphaea caerulea, also called the blue lily, today is found all over the world including the Indian sub-continent. This beautiful blue flower is considered sacred by Indians, especially the Buddhists.

Historians have always considered the blue lily symbolically rich and associated it with the ancient Egyptian culture.

But recent studies have revealed that it has healing properties as well. Nymphaea caerulea was used by ancient Egyptians as a stimulant to increase sexual desire. It was also a symbol of the Egyptian deity ‘Nefertem’.

Today we know that the sacred blue lily can be used for a variety of medical purposes. It can be used to make various healthy concoctions including blue lotus tea, wine and martinis! All you need to do is to soak the petals for up to three weeks to obtain the intoxicating beverage.

Blue lotus ‘tea’ can easily be prepared by boiling the flowers for 10–20 minutes. No matter how you consume it, the Nymphaea caerulea will surely provide your body with tons of health benefits.
