Adaptogenic Coffee: What it is and Why You Need It!
Ok, I know what you're thinking...
Mushrooms? In my coffee?
Actually, medicinal mushrooms and probiotics are pretty tasteless, yet packed with nutrients and benefits to help you supplement your health in 2018.
So when I ran across these amazing Herbal Coffee recipes, I just knew I would want to share these delightful recipes with our readers!
MUSHROOM COFFEE: BENEFITS & RECIPE
As food blogger Nourished by Nutrition so eloquently writes:
"Mushrooms – yes, as in fungi – are on the radar for top wellness trends and for good reason! Select mushroom varieties have been termed “medicinal” for their adaptogenic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-enhancing properties. These more exotic mushrooms found natively in Asia are becoming increasingly more available in dried, liquid extract or in capsule form.
The compounds that give the mushroom their potent healing qualities are their polysaccharides, which include letinan, beta-glucans, and triterpenoids. These compounds have promising immune-enhancing, cardiovascular-protective properties, anticancer and antibacterial properties that work along side other sterols, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to create a powerful adaptogen."
Medicinal Mushroom Latte
A warm, creamy tonic made with medicinal mushrooms and other ingredients, such as Maca, even probiotics, can help you power through your morning efficiently and even joyfully!
1 cup cashew or coconut milk - organic
1 tsp mushroom powder- we use Chaga & Cordyceps from Herbal Cafe
½ tsp maca powder
¼ tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp organic raw honey or sugar in the raw
For this topping I decided to try something new. I blended 2 egg whites with sugar in the raw, cream of tartar and organic gelatin. This creates a nice foam you can put on top of just about any warm beverage. (Next week I will do a post on the best forms of gelatin to use to make all kinds of fun treats, such as gummies infused with CBD or other oils.)
HOW TO MAKE and ENJOY
In a small sauce pan, heat all ingredients to a simmer.
Transfer the liquid to a blender and blend starting on low and working up to high for 1 minute, until foamy.
Pour into a mug, top with foam as described above and enjoy!
